Jan Braai’s Red Hot Named One of Top Three Barbecue Books at Gourmand World Cookbook Awards

Red HotJan Braai’s latest cookbook, Red Hot, has been named one of the top three Barbeque Books at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Beijing.

Press release:

The South African braai is taking over the world. Jan Braai’s book, Red Hot, was named one of the top 3 Barbecue Books in the world at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Beijing last week. This news comes after in December 2013 Gourmand announced that it had judged Jan Braai’s book the best barbecue book in South Africa.

The award will not come as a surprise to South Africans who know that there is no one who knows more about cooking on a fire than the originator of the National Braai Day initiative in South Africa. This official acknowledgement comes on the back of strong local and international sales in Europe and the United States of both Fireworks (Jan’s first book) and Red Hot (his second). The encyclopedia of braai, as many call it, has also been translated into foreign languages, the Czech edition of Fireworks, entitled Jan Braai – Grilovani selling like fillet steak on special in that country.

Jan Braai, otherwise known as Jan Scannell, is host of the TV show Jan Braai vir Erfenis on kykNET and the author of two authoritative books on the art of cooking on a fire – Fireworks (and in Afrikaans Vuurwerke) and Red Hot (Vuurwarm). Having braaied across the world from New York, London, Sydney and Dublin, Jan Braai’s most recent international braai outreach tour took him to the ancient city of Istanbul to braai shish kebabs in the world heritage site on the banks of the Bosphorus Strait. In the build up to National Braai Day 2014 expect to see Jan braaing in more exotic locations around South Africa and the world!
