Read About What Marlene Van der Westhuizen Cooked Up in Her Kitchen Art Course

DelectableMarlene Van der Westhuizen, chef and author of several cookbooks including Delectable, offers a number of cooking tours and classes throughout the year.

Lizél-Antoinette from Real Simple Living attended Van der Westhuizen’s Kitchen Art course and has shared a series of posts on the experience, writing that, “The course changed the way I look at food, how I prepare special meals for my loved ones, and how I see myself as a hostess.”

She shares the menus they prepared in each class, which included recipes from Van der Westhuizen’s cookbooks:

In 2010 I realised a big and long-standing dream of mine to do a fabulous cooking course. I was fortunate enough to enrol with Marlene van der Westhuizen, renowned chef and author of many (and my all-time favourite) cookbooks.

This course was offered weekly, for about 20 weeks, at her beautiful Food Studio in Green Point. This experience was more valuable to me than I could’ve imagined. Not only did I learn fabulous food techniques and enjoyed the most delectable food and wine, but I also met wonderful people along the way.

The second fabulous class I’m sharing with you has me inspired all over again! I’ve mentioned before the impact this course had on my life. It was way more than learning about food, it was a lifestyle course. It inspired me to look at each aspect of the cooking and entertaining process, and make it beautiful. I guess this is why the course was called ‘Kitchen Art’.

The weather is changing, and it is lovely to see the new season’s produce appearing. It is not always easy to conjure up new simple meals for my family, we often go through phases of favourites only. I often feel like a masterchef contender with an invention test challenge! Hopefully what follows will inspire you to change your menu up a bit!

In this, my fourth cooking class from the Kithen Art course, I’ll be sharing a few more mouth-watering meals.
This starter of French Onion Soup for me epitomises the perfect winter meal. This menu included lamb ribs with Puy lentils as a main course with Bella’s cheesecake for dessert. Sumptuous!
